Short Courses

Laboratory Safety Course

The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at Sharif University of Technology hosted a three-day laboratory safety course in February 2023. The course was attended by 12 students and university personnel, focusing on various aspects of laboratory safety, particularly the risks associated with working with nanoscale materials. The opening day featured Dr. Shahnaz Ghasemi, a respected professor from the Energy, Water and Environment Institute at Sharif University, who provided comprehensive explanations of the factors underlying accidents in research laboratories. Dr. Ghasemi also discussed preventive measures and coping strategies to mitigate the occurrence of such incidents. On the following day, Ms. Mirzakhani, an expert from the Fire Department, delivered a lecture covering different fire categories, preventive techniques, and fire extinguishment methods. Practical fire extinguishing exercises were conducted near the Aerospace Engineering Department at Sharif University, with active participation from all attendees. The final day of the course included a presentation by Dr. Leila Shushtari, a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Dr. Shushtari addressed the hazardous implications of working with nanoscale materials and provided a thorough explanation of preventive measures and coping mechanisms. The participants then underwent a comprehensive assessment, and those who successfully passed were granted a license certifying their eligibility to access the laboratory.

A one-day lecture and workshop on 3D printing and tissue engineering

A one-day lecture and workshop on 3D printing and tissue engineering was held on 18th July 2018 by the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, with the presence of more than 70 interested researchers in this field. In this workshop, Dr. Lobat Tayebi, a faculty member at Marquette University's School of Dentistry in the United States, first spoke about innovative methods such as 3D printing and microfluidics for using biological materials to produce biological structures in dentistry and medicine, and explained the latest achievements of her research group. Following the lecture, a 3D printing workshop was held with an introduction to tissue engineering and various types of soft and hard tissue engineering, and the produced samples were presented. Finally, researchers from Omid Afarinan Engineering Company, a university startup company, presented their latest products in the field of bioprinters.
